Why Blog?

There are many reasons for one to start a blog. A quick search online will yield various reasons for one to begin writing a blog. One of the top reasons is to make money. While making a little extra while typing here is great, I do not want that to be my focus and goal for writing. I want this to open and unleash my creativity and not be another job (already have one of those). The top 5 for me are: To write, to have fun, to connect, to provide direction, to express.

  • To write: Growing up I was a big reader and I envied those that could put to paper all the details to build up an entire life for the characters. I have always enjoyed writing but would often face the dreaded writer's block. Blogging here is going to be my way of breaking out of my writer's block and unleash my creativity. My posts will be extremely varied as I will try different prompts and tips I have found over the years to get through writer's block. The number one rule from many writers is to just write, and I will.

  • To have fun: With money not being my main focus, this blog is going to be very informal and loose for me. It can be as fun as I want to make it without a boss telling me what to do or driving my deadlines. I want to write about what is on my mind whenever I feel like writing.

  • To connect: This reason is one that really excites me; to connect. This is about me connecting with you, the reader. This is why I write and why you come back to read what I have written.

  • To provide direction: This is my direction in writing. The whole purpose of this blog is to fight back against writer's block and hopefully, I will gain insight and direction in my writing. A secondary benefit received will be getting direction in life. It is too easy to become distracted in your free time by browsing endlessly on social media or doing other things unproductive. With this blog, my free time has gone to planning an writing out the next post(s).

  • To express: The more I write, the better I will write. As with anything else, the more you do it, the better you become at it. I would like to be a more expressive writer. One who is more descriptive and better with words. As I progress writing this blog, I truly hope that my writing progresses with.

If you are hoping to get into writing of any kind, figure out the reasons why you are writing in the first place. When you are having a lack of motivation with writing, you can always turn back to your reasons why you starting and allow that to motivate you. Why do you write?
